Guildhall School of Music & Drama is making new friends

Guildhall School of Music & Drama has partnered with Age UK Camden to bring music to isolated people during the new COVID-19 lockdown. Music Bank will see students reaching out to older people for remote performances and conversations.

Each participant will receive three performances lasting 30-45 minutes over either video call or telephone. Music Bank specifically targets people living with dementia.

Participants get to choose the music they hear, with pieces from Shirley Bassey, Stevie Wonder, Mozart and Pink Floyd along the selections. Guildhall School of Music & Drama students will receive training prior to taking part in the programme.

Commented Age UK Camden chief executive Nikki Morris: “Our isolated members living with dementia will benefit from the joys of music and friendship over the challenging months ahead. Isolation can be damaging to both physical and mental health and this is a fantastic way to counter that.”

Added Sean Gregory from Guildhall School of Music & Drama: “Conversation and friendship sit at the heart of this important project, a collaboration that brings together an extraordinary programme of musical styles and influences. Technology, innovation and live performance working in perfect harmony!”
