What’s online this week

We begin our weekly rundown of digital events with Scenes For Survival, a new collection of short works created by National Theatre of Scotland (NTS). Premiering via BBC Online and the company’s social media channels, it includes short pieces featuring Moyo Akande, Brian Cox, Ian Rankin, Kat Dickie and more. Scenes For Survival goes live on 27 May at 9pm (BST).

NTS stated that, “Scenes for Survival will draw attention to the enduring and urgent role of storytelling in the current crisis and explore themes of hope, solidarity, community, escape, imagination as well as stories from the frontline.”

In classical music, Dennis Alves – director of artistic planning at Boston Pops Orchestra – has curated a week of archive performances from the orchestra. Conductors in the programme include Arthur Fiedler, John Williams, and Keith Lockhart under the theme “music of the night”.

Staying in America, Kaufman Music Center will stream a performance from cellist Gabriel Cabezas on Wednesday 27 May. The programme – on the company’s Facebook page at 7pm EDT – includes Jessie Montgomery’s Prelude; Alyssa Weinberg’s Pieces of Light; Gabriella Smith’s Lost Coast; and Nico Muhly’s Drones and Viola da Gamba.

Then in dance, English National Ballet shares Derek Dance’s Swan Lake at 7pm BST on 27 May. The cast includes Isaac Hernández as Prince Siegfried and Jurgita Dronina as Odette/Odile. It was recorded at the Liverpool Empire in 2018, and will be available on both Facebook and YouTube for 48 hours after the initial stream.

As for career and skills development, look no further than Theatre Means Business – a joint venture from UK Theatre and the Society for London Theatres. The site hosts online seminars and talks, with topics this week including ‘Leadership and Resilience’ (27 May, 10:30am BST); ‘Improve Your Website: Top 10 Tips’ (28 May, 10:30am) and a series on removing barriers. Full details are on the Theatre Means Business website.
