Oxford Playhouse is an iconic venue, situated in the cultural heart of one of England’s most famous and cosmopolitan cites. The Playhouse exists to inspire people and transform lives by nurturing and championing creativity and has a responsibility to help to rebuild a thriving performing arts sector, investing in artists and community projects to reconnect and revive the region.
We deliver an innovative, relevant, and inclusive artistic programme that sparks, enables and nurtures every individual’s curiosity and imagination, and invests in artistic collaborations throughout Oxfordshire’s distinct communities.
Our cultural programme is made up of three artistic strands – Playhouse Presents, Playhouse Artists and Playhouse Communities. Artistic ambition, diversity, access, inclusion, dynamism, relevance and sustainability underpin these core programmes.
These interconnected strands deliver our mission placing creative engagement and opportunities for all at their heart. Our creative work is emboldened by distinctive partnerships and collaborations, that enrich the experiences of participants, artists and audiences.
The Development Director will play an important role in contributing to our strategic direction as we work collaboratively with industry colleagues and local partners to rebuild the cultural sector and communities adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Development Director is a member of the Senior Management Team under the leadership of a new Joint-Chief Executive partnership and will play a key role in realising our ambitious plans with a creative and effective fundraising strategy.
We recognise the challenges nationally, but also the opportunities regionally, to rethink our approach to fundraising.
Fundraising priorities include projects focused on vulnerable and isolated communities; development of an Associates School Programme; ensuring that the Access All Areas Pledge becomes a reality; support for a diverse range of artists and diverse led work; and a Commissioning Fund to support digital and live producing aspirations.
The Development Director will be responsible for cultivating and stewarding a wide range of stakeholders to leverage strategic relationships and deliver stretching fundraising targets.
The Development Director will have the opportunity to build and lead a new team, with support from a loyal and enthusiastic Development Committee.
