Website Eastgate Theatre & Arts Centre
The Eastgate is an independent arts and community venue with a flexible 200-seat auditorium for live performances and cinema screenings, a studio for workshops, classes and exhibitions, and a licensed café. There is a small core staff team, ably supported by many local volunteers.
Caroline Adam is leaving after leading the company for fourteen years, during which she has established the Eastgate as a vital community-based creative centre in the Scottish Borders.
The Eastgate presents an annual programme of around 120 live performances and more than 100 film screenings, alongside a participation programme offering classes and workshops every week. The programme comprises internationally acclaimed artists, and national companies touring throughout Scotland and beyond, together with locally based creative organisations and practitioners. The Eastgate receives core funding from Live Borders along with project funding from Creative Scotland and other agencies.
We now wish to appoint a Director with vision and imagination to lead the organisation through the next stage of its development. The ideal candidate will be someone who shares our commitment to providing high quality and engaging cultural experiences for our audiences, artists, practitioners and participants.
To develop and deliver the strategic aims and objectives of the business, and promote the Eastgate Theatre across the South of Scotland.
To lead on artistic planning and programming, build partnerships with creative practitioners, educators, and other arts and screen organisations.
To ensure robust financial management and commercial oversight of the arts centre and café business.
To identify fundraising opportunities with public funders, trusts, foundations and sponsors and construct compelling funding applications; develop strong partnerships with the local community and other stakeholders.
To oversee all marketing and communications activities with particular attention to enhancing the online and digital marketing of the organisation.
To oversee and manage all employment issues; managing the staff team, volunteers, and freelance practitioners.
To ensure that the company complies with all current legislation; reporting to the Chair of the Board of Trustees; attendance at Board meetings.
