Gecko makes Barbican debut at London International Mime Festival

Physical theatre company Gecko will make its Barbican debut as part of the London International Mime Festival (LIMF). Running from 9 January – 3 February, it is one of the largest festivals of its kind.

Gecko will present The Wedding, where nine performers guide the audience through a dystopian world, “in which we are all brides, wedded to society”. Created by Gecko artistic director Amit Lahav, The Wedding already toured the UK in 2017.

Remarked Toni Racklin, head of theatre at the Barbican, “We’re delighted to welcome award-winning physical theatre company Gecko to the Barbican for the first time with their acclaimed production, The Wedding. The international company has a powerful physical vocabulary, so it’s brilliant to be presenting this London premiere with our regular partners, LIMF.”

Added Lahav: “I am immensely proud that Gecko has been invited to perform The Wedding at the Barbican Theatre as part of LIMF, our biggest national platform to date. Having always worked with an international ensemble and toured extensively internationally, it also gives me great pleasure to know that Gecko will be the first British company to be seen in this prestigious international slot in the LIMF programme.”

Other companies in the LIMF bill are Les Antliaclastes with Waltz of the Hommelettes, Théâtre de l’Entrouvert with Anywhere and Theatre Re with Birth.
