Gramophone awards announced

Gramophone has announced the winners of its Classical Music Awards 2016. The annual prizes across 12 categories are among the most prestigious in the industry, and recognise releases made in the past 12 months.

Winners include Rachel Podger (baroque instrumental); Les Arts Florissants (baroque vocal); Heath Quartet (chamber); Gürzenich-Orchester Köln (choral); Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (concerto); Barbara Hannigan, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (contemporary); Taverner Choir & Players (early music); Igor Levit (instrumental); Sir Antonio Pappano (opera); Boston Symphony Orchestra (orchestral); Ensemble Pygmalion (recital); and Véronique Gens (solo vocal).

The winners of artist of the year, young artist of the year, label of the year, lifetime achievement and recording of the year awards will be announced during the prize ceremony in London on 15 September.
