The 70th ARD International Music Competition 2021 in Munich has been announced. Next year’s event features four categories – piano duo, voice, horn and violin – and runs from 30 August to 17 September, including the prize winner’s concerts.
ARD has also named the three orchestras that will accompany next year’s entrants: Munich Chamber Orchestra, Münchner Rundfunkorchester and Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks.
Commented ARD managing director Elisabeth Kozik: “The competition, because of its scale and prestige, offers participants a unique opportunity for testing their musical mettle against other world-class players. It also is a networking opportunity, giving musicians chance to meet agents and music executives looking to sign up the next big talent.”
In addition to cash prizes, ARD winners will be invited to take place in a chamber music tour – the Festival of ARD Prize-Winners. Running since 2001, the tour gives the young musicians exposure across major European stages.
“The tour gets away from the obvious confrontational situation of a music competition and allows the musicians to enjoy making music together,” added Kozik. “The Festival of ARD Prize-Winners tour will see former prize winners from all over the world join forces to rehearse and perform chamber music. In fact, many of our former prize winners have found long-term chamber music partners through the tour.”
Full competition details and information on registry can be found via the ARD website. The application process opens in mid-February 2021.
