Barcelona Dance International Competition details announced

Award Europe SRL has released the details of Barcelona Dance International Competition (BDIC) 2016. Running from 24-28 March to coincide with Easter holidays, the Barcelona-based festival will see young dancers from all over the world come together to convene and compete.

All styles of dance are welcome, from ballet to contemporary, folk to hip-hop, musicals to jazz. A number of prizes are awarded, including Best Dance School, Sissi Award for Dance, Aristic Direction and Special Mention of the Jury. The jury is made up of members of the Dance Grand Prix Academy Association.

‘It is a real foreign dance tournament with all styles, where everybody can participate and win the prestigious Barcelona Competition trophies,’ said Award Europe SRL in a press release.

Entrants are divided into three groups: under 16s, over 16s and teachers. Solo, duo and trio pieces must not exceed three minutes in length, while ensemble works can be up to eight minutes.

In addition to the competition participants get to work with local artists and theatre directors to help them hone their performance. A number of cultural events and sight-seeing opportunities around Barcelona are also on the agenda.

The 2015 edition hosted 28 companies from 15 countries and four continents. 990 dancers took part, in competition events lasting 12 hours.

The next event in Award Europe SRL’s calendar is Dance Grand Prix Europe. It runs from 22-26 June across Paris, London, Rome, Lisbon, Vienna, Barcelona and Athens, making it the most extensive competition for young dancers in Europe. Again, the event is open to dance schools of all styles.

Award Europe SRL was set up in 1998 and engages 1,500 dancers in its events each year. The company has offices in both Spain and Italy.

A full programme can be found on the BDIC website, along with details of how to register and special discounts for larger groups.
