Creative Scotland awards funding and names new head of diversity

Cultural centres, theatremakers, festivals and organisations working across the creative industries in Scotland have been awarded a share of £1.2m in National Lottery funding.

Creative Scotland’s Open Project Fund has been awarded to 53 recipients, with awards of between £1,462 and £99,849 made in August.

Iain Munro, deputy CEO, of Creative Scotland, said: “This funding will help nurture emerging talent, support established artists and provide more opportunities for people of all backgrounds to discover the transformative power of creativity.”

Among the recipients were Take Me Somewhere, the Glasgow-based festival of contemporary and experimental performance and West Coast Arts.

Dunoon Burgh Hall received funding to deliver its 2017-18 cultural programme. Scottish Youth Dance, theatremaker Emma Jayne Park and Theatre Gu Leòr were among the other recipients.

Creative Scotland has also named Milica Milosevic-Robson has been appointed as its head of equalities, diversity and inclusion.

As senior relationship manager for diversity and music at Arts Council England, Milica led on diversity, and equality strategy and policy, informing the development and delivery of diversity strategy across England.

Philip Deverell, director of strategy at Creative Scotland said: “We’re really pleased to welcome Milica to Creative Scotland. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience, working with diverse communities across the UK. Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion are important priorities for Creative Scotland and Milica will help shape how we make Scotland’s arts, screen and creative industries fully representative of all Scotland’s communities.”

Milica Milosevic-Robson said: “I’m very much looking forward to joining Creative Scotland and building on its progress to place equalities, diversity and inclusion at the core of its work to increase access, progression and representation of Scotland’s diverse communities across the arts, screen and creative industries.”
